Electric Bike Company’s hovsco electric cruiser bike stands out for its quality and affordable price. But don’t let the cruiser’s frame fool you. Hovsco is strong and also comfortable. This is the most affordable e-bike in the Electric Bike Company lineup, designed for individuals on a budget. Read on to our written Electric Bicycle Company hovsco review or watch our review video below.
From wheels to safety posts and handlebars, ebike Company is putting quality standards first. Part of this is because their bikes are built in the US with global components.
Like other ebike reviews Company electric cruisers, the hovsco is 100% customizable, from the colors to the components. This of course increases the price, but the option is there.
You have the choice of going with a basic 48V 12 Ah battery, tucked away in the bottom of the chassis, or upgrading to a longer range 14 Ah battery for an additional $399. A single-speed powertrain is included but a 7-speed rear derailleur is also available for $149. Other options include a front basket (our favorite accessory), fenders, rear rack, hanging safety post, GPS tracker, and alarm. If you’ve never used Electric Bike Company’s color customizer, it’s well worth a try. You can even get real wooden fenders!
Features of Hovsco Electric Bicycle Company
Hovsco equips the MXUS rear hub motor with a peak power of 1000 watts. The hovsco has a left-hand throttle that cuts out at 20 mph. The top speed when pedaling was 27 mph in our testing. The bottom line, the MXUS engine offers more than enough power and perhaps overkill for a cruiser-style bike. Still, it’s good to know that you’ll never have to worry about climbing hills.

Frame and handlebar design
The EBC frame is hydraulically formed and made from aluminum. This is a 7-step process and it does – paint, clean, base primer, three coats of paint, and two clear coats of primer. Heat treatment increases strength and durability.
The hovsco frame is designed to provide clean hidden wiring while maintaining the traditional look of a non-electric cruiser. When it comes to cable management, EBC has done a great job. And worth noting is the accessibility to the step-by-step framework. The company notes that the frame will fit a wide range of riders from 4’6 ″ – 6’8 ″. Maximum weight is 350 lbs and bike weight with battery 56 lbs.
Since this is a cruiser-style bike, the handlebars are swiped back to help the driver have an upright and comfortable sitting position. An included adjustment stem allows you to adjust the handlebar further to your liking.
Handle and saddle
The handlebars and saddle combine perfectly. You can choose black or brown with hand stitching. The handle is locked and feels comfortable in the hand. The saddle is extra wide, cushioned, and produces a good amount of cushioning. It’s one of the most beautiful antique saddles we’ve ever seen.

Hovsco has hydraulic disc brakes (180 mm rotor) not necessarily available at this price point. Bengal hydraulic disc brakes provide ample stopping power and are easy to pull. Like most electric vehicles on the market, the automatic engine shutdown prevents the driver from running the engine while applying the brakes.
Single-speed drive system
The single-speed hovsco has a 56-tooth chainset up front and 18 teeth at the rear. We found that at slower speeds shifting feels good although at higher speeds of 24 mph + your foot will spin at a faster rate and it will be harder to deliver power for yourself.
Rear lights and front lights
The front and rear lights run on the main battery and increase visibility on the road. The light is turned on by holding down the pedal assist ‘up’ button. These lights are brighter than average, and we particularly like the dual lights at the rear.
The hovsco EBC comes with a 48V 12 Ah lithium-ion battery that can be upgraded to 14 Ah for an extra $399. Accompanying it is a 3.5 amp “super charger” with a larger cooling fan than the 2 amp chargers we’re used to seeing.
Tires and wheels
Electric Bike Company used 26 inch x 2.35 inch Schwalbe Fat Frank E-Cruiser Tires. Supplied in black or our favorite, brown with white sidewalls, they not only look great, they work great. Width is a good size for a cruiser tire and Schwalbe is a solid brand. The Continental E50 Black Tires are an $89 upgrade.
Smaller riders can opt for 24-inch wheels and tires at no extra cost.
Shipping in progress
While most bike companies offer free shipping through UPS or FedEx, Electric Bike Company is a little different. To ensure their bikes arrive in the same condition as they left the workshop, EBC ships their bikes via freight. This costs $199, but the other benefit is the fully assembled bikes. Just turn the handlebars and you’re ready to go. Shipping costs are easy to justify, especially if you want your bike assembled by a bike mechanic. You can save on shipping if you buy from one of EBC’s many locations in California.
The Electric Bicycle Company supplied Hovsco with an economical electric bicycle. It’s surprisingly well priced, and at $1,699 you won’t find a better quality cruiser. Also, EBC is building its bikes right here in the US.
